DTN COMMENTS:  Cash cattle country remains relatively quiet this 
afternoon with just a few live bids noted in parts of Nebraska, but 
asking prices are still not established. Significant trade volume will 
likely be delayed until Thursday and/or Friday. 

Today's slaughter totaled 112,000 head, 2,000 below last week, and 13,000 
less than a year ago. Cattle futures closed sharply higher on both live 
(up 97 to 132) and feeder (up 125 to 385) contracts. Beef cutouts are 
expected to close mixed, with light to moderate boxed movement.
